Commercial ballasts limit the flow of electrical current to fluorescent lightbulbs, preventing them from overheating and burning out. Our technicians specifically match lighting ballasts to the type of lightbulb being used.
Custom Lighting Design
Commercial fluorescent bulbs generate more heat and magnetic interference than those made for residential use. This makes proper installation is very important for avoiding fire risks or causing interference with your electronic equipment. Our Sunburst Electric team will help you evaluate your current commercial lighting setup by suggesting improvements for increased energy efficiency and lower operating costs.
The ballast regulates the current to the lamps and provides sufficient voltage to start the lamps. Without a ballast to limit its current, a fluorescent lamp connected directly to a high voltage power source would rapidly and uncontrollably increase its current draw. Within a second the lamp would overheat and burn out.
Matching replacement light bulbs to existing fixtures and ballasts can be tricky, especially with older fixtures. Using new fixtures made for new light bulbs gives you the greatest energy savings, reliability and longevity compared with simply replacing bulbs.
