FREQUENTLY ASKED

QUESTIONS

What is an electrical circuit overload & how do I prevent it?

An electrical circuit overload occurs when more amperage than the circuit can handle is transferred across an electrical wire. This can be the result of corroded, loose or faulty wiring or connections. The most common cause of circuit overloads is drawing more power than the outlet’s maximum capacity, i.e. plugging too many devices into the same plug point at once. This causes circuit breakers to trip or breaker fuses to blow, cutting off power entirely.

Why would I upgrade my circuits?

Outlets should be upgraded to avoid overloading circuits. By installing electrical circuits that have enough capacity to meet the demand in each area of your building, you are actively preventing loss of power and productivity, as well as damage to expensive appliances and hardware.

What are some of the reasons for upgrading my circuits?
  • The installation of a new security system or the upgrading of an existing system.

  • The addition of speciality lighting, such as: task lighting, recessed lighting, track lighting, accent lighting, mood lighting, wall sconces, or other specialty light fixtures in your home/business.

  • Additional outlets are required in order to plug in appliances.

  • Modifications to or the additions of outdoor lighting/features, such as: landscape lighting, a pool, a sauna or steam room, a hot tub, a new sprinkler system, or festive lights.

  • Remote-controlled ceiling fans installations.

  • The installation of an emergency generator.

  • The installation or upgrading of a home theatre entertainment system and the need for additional power outlets.

  • Overabundance of power strips, extension cords, or additional outlet plugs in order to support the use of electronic equipment.

  • The installation of satellite television points in other rooms.

  • Upgrading lighting by the addition of smart lighting control stations.
